Careful of product substitutions like british icing sugar - it is not the same as confectionare sugar, has no corn starch or clumping agents. I’m a fan of Mary Berry, but not as much of this book. There's a problem loading this menu right now. She does some things differently from other baking books. For example, you might have to make the conversion to 'not self rising' flour and then make the usual high-altitude adjustments to that.

I was given this book when it first came out in 2009 by Jane Curran, the Food Editor on Woman and Home magazine. Beautiful photos of Mary in her garden and kitchen enhance this recipe book which is really more of a coffee table book than anything else though the re are some great recipes. Thank you!!

Last summer I went to the Lakeland Christmas press launch. It's not easy to trim nicely when it's still warm. Doing so will remove all the Bookmarks you have created for this book. Disabling it will result in some disabled or missing features. Overall the book is good but missing some finishing touches to make it a "must have" book. I admit I use this less frequently than Mary Berry's traditional recipe books, but it makes a lovely present.

As some other people have said there is plenty of room for more pictures, I like a picture to see what I'm trying to make and the conversions from grams to oz (or oz to grams!?!)

It explains what happens when you use the wrong sugar, or butter at the wrong temperatures for a specific recipe plus many other questions I have needed answers too for many years. So easy and quick to make. I want to say this book makes every bake a bit too simple and the results should be blah especially as Mary uses the all in one method in virtually every recipe but the truth is they all work out just fine , especially if you have a decent mixer , I do tweak several of the recipes and add extra of the “nice “ ingredients for example more topping to the lemon drizzle tray bake which incidentally has become my best friends favourite and so quick and easy, Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 October 2018. I made this one from my Mary Berry Baking Bible and it’s fantastic as it not only tastes amazing but it’s bigger than most recipes. Wonderful classic British cakes, buns, slices and other baked goods. Would probably reduce the sugar a bit but otherwise really nice. it's a bit of a change to adjust to the different terms and temperatures, but worth it. I've tried a good number of recipes and, following the instructions, everything's turned out perfectly and has been very tasty! Next time I will roll and chill first, then trim, to make a neater cut.

Mary Berry. It was sitting in my stomach forever and I just couldn't digest it. Lovely book, well laid out and easily used by beginner and accomplished bakers. The information on some pages are on a red background and black text (whoever thought of that needs to be fired) and makes it very hard to red. It includes traditional British bakes, recipes used in challenges on Great British Bake-Off, and some yummy looking options from around the world. Everything has been so easy to follow and (so far!) Drawing on her years of experience to create recipes for cakes, breads and desserts, Mary Berry's Baking Bible will prove to be a timeless classic. Quick to disappear too. Definitely recommend it for all bakers! It absolutely made my day. Very unhealthy. Freeze well. I bought this book to bake for my daughter and I was so surprised after following the recipes. Many of these recipes use 'self rising' flour and then add even more leavener, so if you live at high altitudes you'll have to experiment in order to get a nice bake.
